The United Arab Emirates was born on December 2, 1971 as an independent federation of seven emirates. Under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the country has been able to bring about unprecedented achievements in the process of development in all sectors and fields.

The UAE is situated along the south-eastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. Qatar lies to the west and north-west, Saudi Arabia to the west and south and Oman to the north, east and south-east. It has 700 kilometers of coastline, 600 kilometers along the Arabian Gulf and 100 kilometers bordering the Gulf of Oman.

The country is located within the dry, tropical zone as temperatures reach 49 centigrade in the summer. The weather in winter, however, is mild and generally pleasant.
